High Court to hear review of Anwar's case Today (5 Feb)

Press Alert 4 February 2009

High Court to hear review of Anwar's case Tomorrow (5 Feb)

Kindly be informed that the High Court will be reviewing Session Court judge Komathy Suppiah's decision to retain Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's sodomy trial at her court on Feb 5 and 6. High Court judge Datuk Mohamad Zabidin Mohd Diah will be hearing the revision against the Sessions Court decision filed by the prosecution.

On June 26, 2008, Anwar was charged at Komathy's Sessions Court with sodomising a former aide Mohamad Saiful Bukhari Azlan. The prosecution sought to have the case transferred to the High Court but the defence objected saying that the transfer certificate was signed by Attorney-General Tan Sri Abdul Gani Patail, who was to have no involvement in the case. On Nov 7, Komathy decided that the trial would stay in her court after ruling that the transfer certificate was invalid. The prosecution filed for a revision as well as an appeal against that decision at the High Court.
